Having recently completed the 6th Annual Digital Africa Summit which was an enormous success for all involved. We are pleased to announce the 7th annual Digital Africa Summit 2009 will take an in depth look at technology convergence and innovation from an African perspective.

The 7th Annual Digital Africa Summit will take place at the prestigious Munyonyo Commonwealth Resort (www.munyonyocommonwealth.com) on the shores of Lake Victoria in Kampala, Uganda between the 19-21 May 2009, please mark these dates in your diary.

We have carefully selected a location that provides accessibility from all parts of Africa and one that reflects the efforts of a government that has demonstrated an enthusiasm for embracing the full potential of ICT as a key driver for social and economic development.

The Ministry of Information and Communications Technology, Uganda under the direction of the Honourable Minister, Dr. Ham-Mukasa Mulira has pledged their full and enthusiastic support, of the Digital Africa Summit along with the UMTS Forum.

"Convergence and Innovation Excellence Driving Positive Change"

In the digital era, access to information and the sharing of knowledge have created a new global currency that is transforming the fundamental economic, educational and social constructs of society, creating unprecedented opportunities for positive change.

Operators on the African continent are currently rolling out WiMax networks, developing IPTV capability and yet many Africans struggle to access even the most basic services.

The region’s need to capitalize on convergent services and innovations is evident with IPTV, Triple Play and VoIP offerings growing, with an increasing demand from the customer base, service providers are locked in a battle to increase ARPU and boost customer loyalty, while maintaining lean and efficient operations. The demand on their networks and ability to deliver value to their customers is constantly growing.

Thus, the challenges to win in this new and dynamic environment are enormous making focus, speed, cooperation and ongoing innovation imperative to its many members.

The Digital Africa Summit aims to assist African operators by providing information that will aid them in developing a focussed, practical strategy moving forward. This will be achieved by orchestrating a debate between:

  • Leading regulatory authorities from Africa and the World
  • Operators from Africa and the World
  • Governments from Africa
  • Industy Associations
  • Financial Institutions and Investors
  • Solution providers
  • System integrators

We expect participating executives to leave this debate with greater clarity and understanding about the challenges they will face in developing their networks increasing connectivity efficieny and driving positicve social and economical growth.
